NEUROMA

COMMON PROBLEMS

NEUROMA

Tingling, burning, numbness and electric-like shocks are all possible symptoms of nerve damage. Neuromas are one of the most frequent nerve conditions seen by podiatrists, characterized by these manifestations in the forefoot. The pain is actually the result of the thickening of a nerve (inflammation), in conjunction with other factors. Symptoms are often aggravated when walking, during physical activity or when wearing shoes that are too narrow or tight (and even high heels). The most common neuroma is a Morton’s neuroma, located between the 3rd and 4th toes.

THE SOLUTIONS

WHAT CAN I
DO ABOUT IT?

Begin by wearing shoes that are wider in the forefoot and avoiding activities and movements which cause you pain. Your podiatrist may also fit you with special cushion inserts, customized orthotics or administer corticosteroid injections to reduce the inflammation. Consulting your podiatrist will allow him or her to precisely diagnose your condition and determine the most appropriate treatment plan.
